Twenty Questions for the Consumer: A Quality Assurance Tool for the Lactation Consultant

Mechell R. Turner, MEd, IBCLC

A simple post-service consumer survey is presented with which the lacta tion consultant can gather and analyze data to determine the extent to which services are meeting the needs of clients. The brief survey can be used to gather data from all clients or from a sample of clients. The survey can be administered by telephone or by postal return form. After analyzing the data obtained, the lactation consultant can iden tify where improvement in practice is needed. An additional "self assessment question naire" enables the lactation consultant to identify areas where personal growth is needed. JHL 12:50-53, 1996.

Key Words: consumer advocacy • lactation services • market survey • quality assurance
