The Risk of Polychlorinated Dibenzodioxins in Human MilkUniversity of Tennessee, Department of Chemistry, 575 Buehler Hall, Knoxville, Tennessee 37996-1600 USA Recently, the news media have reported the presence of the carcinogenic compounds commonly called dioxins in human milk. Based on published Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) levels, the amounts of dioxins in human milk are below the level shown to have any toxic effect in test animals, but above the level recommended by the EPA as safe.
