Helping the Woman Who Has Had Breast Surgery: A Literature Review218 Fourth Avenue, Ottawa, ONT KiS 2L8 Canada. Women who have had breast surgery are likely to have many questions and misgivings about their ability to breastfeed. In order to answer the woman's questions and provide her with supportive and guiding care, the lactation consultant must understand the nature of the surgery, the reasons for it, and the likely outcome with respect to the ability to lactate.
