Breastfeeding Information in Nursing Textbooks Needs Improvement

El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar si la información sobre lactancia materna en los textos de enfermería/salud materno-infantil es precisa y actualizada. Se revisaron 6 textos utilizando un formato de calificación estandarizado. Cinco personas revisaron el contenido sobre lactancia materna en acuerdo a la lista de contenido de cada texto. Cada texto se calificó en 20 áreas básicas del tema de lactancia materna de acuerdo a las recomendaciones de la AAP y la OMS. Las respuestas se codificaron como C (revisado/correcto), I (revisado/incorrecto o inconsistente), y O (omitido). De los 20 criterios de calificación, el número medio en cada texto fue 17 (rango 14-19). Para cada categoría, el número medio del criterio fue; correcto 11.8, rango 10-15; incorrecto 5.2, rango 2-8; omitido 3.0, rango 1-6. Se obtuvo la calificación de cada texto asi: Pilliteri 10/20 (50%); Ladewig 11/20 (55%); Leifer 11/20 (55%); Ball 12/20 (60%); London 12/20 (60%); y Klossner 15/20 (75%).Tambien, la información sobre lactancia materna en estos textos, cuando no se omitió, en ocasiones fue imprecisa e inconsistente.
