Early Interruption of Exclusive Breastfeeding and Associated Factors, State of São Paulo, Brazil

Se identificaron factores asociados a la introducción de líquidos, en el primer día después de la salida del hospital en 26,474 niños por debajo de 6 meses de edad, muestra tomada durante la campaña de vacunación en 136 condados del estado de Sao Paulo-Brasil en el 2004. Se estimaron probabilidades de consumo a través de un análisis de probidad. Las asociaciones entre consumo temprano de agua, té u otras leches, y las características de las madres y niños se verificaron através de un análisis de regresión Poisson. A los 4 meses de edad, 17% recibieron solo leche materna. Introducción de agua y té fue mas frecuente en madres con bajo nivel educativo (rango de prevalencia (PR) = 1.54 p = 10.001 y PR = 11.36 p = 10.000, respectivamente), y la introducción de otras leches, con prematuridad (PR = 11.32 p = 10.001), tipo de parto (PR = 11.50 p = 10.000) y bajo peso al nacer (PR = 11.64 p = 10.000). Los resultados pueden contribuir a la formulación de intervenciones y acciones dirigidas a evitar la introducción temprana de líquidos a los bebes.
