La lactancia materna exclusiva en bebes de 6 meses o menores y continuar la lactancia (20-23 meses) son indicadores de salud infantil de alta prioridad. Nos concentramos en evaluar las prácticas de lactancia materna, usando indicadores de lactancia materna estandarizados, y determinar las causas de discontinuación temprana de la lactancia materna (≤ 6 meses) en niños de 0-24 meses de edad en Duzce, Turquía. En este estudio seccional cruzado, donde el grupo de estudio consistió en 158 bebes, y cuestionarios a través de entrevistas personales con madres. El índice de lactancia materna exclusiva (≤ 6 meses) fue de 22.4%. El índice de continuación de la lactancia materna (20-23 meses) fue de 10.0%. Las dos principales causas de discontinuación temprana de lactancia materna fue leche inadecuada (38.1%) y que el bebe no se pegó al pecho (14.3%). La mitad de los individuos que recomendaron leche de formula a las madres de bebes de 6 meses o menores fueron médicos.
